The Vancouver Canucks closed out their six-game home stand with one of their best games of the stretch but failed to take two points away from the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. The Canucks appeared to take control during the midway point of the hockey game but allowed another late goal against to give the Kings life.
Love ‘em and hate ‘em the following are my thoughts from an energetic affair at Rogers Arena.

Oh Captain, My Captain
At least Henrik Sedin’s power play goal warranted an enthusiastic celebration
The Vancouver Canucks responded with an appropriately aggressive team effort on Monday after witnessing their captain take a hard hit from Jordan Nolan during the second period.
Henrik looked like he may have been hurt on the play but stayed in the game, creating a tension that immediately changed the course of the game.
While Ryan Stanton‘s fight with Nolan didn’t result in any serious punches landed it was an extension of Vancouver’s response against a physical Kings team.
Captain Serious
Henrik Sedin is rarely thought of as an emotion leader on the Canucks, however Monday’s breakthrough power play goal warranted a healthy celebration from the team’s captain after snapping the team’s scoring drought with the man advantage.
The Canucks earned several power play chances on Monday and desperately needed the power play goal to get things going in the right direction.
Look for signs of life from Vancouver’s power play moving forward.
Booth Better
David Booth had one of his best games of the season Monday against the Kings, getting involved in the attacking zone and driving to the net with purpose. Booth was second among Vancouver’s forward with 5 shots on net, and will need to continue to keep working around the net in order to get his game back on track.
Hate ‘Em
Call It A Comeback
Monday’s loss to the Kings was the fourth time on this six-game home stand that the Canucks have allowed the visitors to complete the comeback.
The Sharks, Panthers, Blackhawks, and Kings all managed to steal points from Rogers Arena recently, making it clear the Canucks have to find a way to focus and close out hockey games moving forward.
Power Play Problems
The Vancouver Canucks finally broke through with a power play goal on Monday, however the team continues to struggle with the man advantage.
The Canucks were officially 1 for 8 on the power play against the Kings but seemed to be out of rhythm when playing with an extra skater.
Jason Garrison saw some time on the team’s top unit but needs to be used more effectively moving forward. The power of Garrison’s slap shot cannot be denied.
Burrows Buzzing
Blame it on injury, blame it on bad luck, but Alex Burrows simply hasn’t been the same for the Canucks so far this season.
The frustrating forward failed to register a shot Monday against the Kings, but managed to earn a pair of minor penalties thanks to extra-curricular activities after the whistle.
While Burrows has a knack for drawing his opposition into a bad penalty he needs to focus on his own game moving forward after being held without a goal through his first 14 games.
